We were in Spain last week, enjoying some sunshine and excellent birding. On one day we visited the area around the Guadalquivir estuary, looking at gulls, terns and waders. During the course of the day we found six different colour-ringed birds. For a fuller report and photos clink this link. This morning I received more details of the Black-headed Gull – Z89C. It had been ringed near Ostrava in the Czech Republic – close to the Polish border – in early May 2015. From other recovery records, it appears to have commuted between Czech Rep and Spain, 2,500k each way, every year since! Remarkable stuff this bird migration!
